THE SYDNEY MUSICIAN'S CLINIC
The Sydney Musician's Clinic commenced in 1979 when the special needs of instrumental Musicians and young music pupils were highlighted by surveys in Australia showing that several students at both Sydney's and Melbourne's Conservatoria of Music were seen to be so disabled by hand and forearm injuries that they had to give up continuing in their classes. The survey was widened so incoming visiting Orchestras and ensembles were surveyed , and almost 50% of their consummate professional musicians were found to be carrying debilities, and suffering real pain and muscle damage caused by their personal instrument usage.
Since then the Sydney Musician's Clinic has diagnosed and set about treating hundreds of victims of poor posture, undesirable and inappropriate fingering, inappropriate instrument choice for player's size, and small injuries that interrupted fingering and only worsened when ignored by teachers, or subjected to severe and unnecessary treatment by non-understanding of musician's lives and flexibilities by even well known Surgeons.
The Sydney Musician's Clinic provides speakers to Music Departments of Schools, Universities, and to many Orchestras including those in all States of Australia and many in other countries. Ailing musicians, including top Soloists and Conductors use the Clinic's instruction and non invasive treatment schedule to avoid operations and injections and other non contributory attempts to try to treat conditions that have been caused by musician's professional activities.
The Clinic's Founder and Director is Professor Earl Owen, an experienced pianist, Microsurgeon, Music pedagogue, writer, Lecturer and pioneer of Music Medicine Clinics and treatments.
